ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30) Morgan and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. She and her sisters Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was a multisport athlete throughout her childhood, however she only discovered soccer at 14. She became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and coming in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued her training at Diamond Bar High School, where she improved her soccer abilities. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) selected Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She also played in the Olympic Development Program's state and regional divisions. Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring in her very first season. Morgan was instrumental in getting the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice in the second round. Morgan became one of four finalist for the Honda Sports Award and the first player from her school to be ranked among the top Hermann Trophy finalists. Following her graduation earlier in the year, Morgan was ranked third in the history of goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan had a variety of soccer careers at the collegiate and national levels throughout her education. During her first year on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that kept her from playing with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April. In Mexico Morgan scored her debut international soccer goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan also participated in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup with four goals, receiving a gold medal, among other accolades.Morgan was then taken on by the senior national team, in which she was substituted and scored a number of crucial goals. One of them was a win over Italy which secured the U.S. team the final place at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and he led it to victory against France. While the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first player to score a goal and an assist in a final World Cup game.
