Pom Klementieff

Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a French actress from France. She attended the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris. Her roles include Loup (2009) as well as Sleepless Night (2011). She portrays the role of Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (1999). Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City, Canada, to the parents of a Korean mother and French-Russian father who was employed there as a consul with the French government. Eugene Klementieff, a painter, was her grandfather. Her parents picked the name "Pom" due to the fact that it's like the Korean words for both "spring" as well as "tiger". Klementieff was a Canadian citizen for a year. Her family was able to travel extensively because of her father's work. After the move to France she resided in Japan. Klementieff's father died of cancer when she was five, and her mother had schizophrenia and was unable to take care of children which is why Klementieff was raised by her paternal uncle and aunt. Her uncle, who she called "like her father", died at 18 years old. The older brother of Klementieff, who committed suicide seven years later, was her aunt. Klementieff was a student at law school for a short time after her uncle's death in order to please her aunt, however she was not a fan of the career path appealing. She was also a waitress and saleswoman in France. Her first acting experience was at age 19 at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. After she completed her education and gaining an audition in theater that granted her two years of tuition alongside some of the top instructors at the school. Klementieff was the stepdaughter of Catherine Deneuve in Apres lui (2006), her first ever professional acting role. Three days were spent on filming her scenes. During one scene, Klementieff was supposed to push a person down a flight of stairs but accidentally fell her way down the stairs, and director Gael Morel used that scene for the final film. Loup (2009) which is which is a French film about the Siberian reindeer herders was her first significant role. The filming took place in a campthat was a few hours from the nearest village, where temperatures dropped to below zero.
