Maureen O'Hara Biography

Maureen O'Hara is a famous American performer and actress and songwriter, both of Irish origin. The passionate, fiery role she played in a variety of American films attracted attention to the beautiful green eyed beauty. Her glamour and beauty were highly praised. Also, she was known as the 'Queen Of Technicolor and was a household name in Hollywood. The roles she played on screen were a reflection of her strong, brave spirit. She was determined to be recognized and survival in an era of male dominance. She called herself "the tough Irish woman" and would not be willing to sacrifice respect for others in order to obtain the roles she was entitled to by merit. She was a strong advocate for women in television and film, and gained many followers as a result. The autobiography she wrote, "Tis herself", released in 2004, provided an honest account of her entire life including her struggles to climb the ladder to success. She was an active woman who was not frightened of doing her own stunts. Through the years she appeared in over 60 films and earned a lot of popularity throughout the world. She got married in 1968 to Charles F. Blair Jr. an ex-pilot brigadier and chief of the air force who were pioneers of transatlantic aviation. O'Hara eventually retired after few years of marriage. But her joy was fleeting because Blair passed away in a tragic plane crash in 1978. The same year, she was also diagnosed as being a victim of uterine cancer, and was required to undergo immediate surgery. She was successful in recovering. After that, her health was declining and she experienced six heart attacks, memory loss in the short term and type 2 diabetes mellitus. On October 24, 2015 O'Hara died peacefully in Boise, Idaho, from natural causes at the age of 95.
